150 years ago today…

Last week my Mom sent me a “on this day” email about Confederate troops heading into Pennsylvania.  That’s when I realized I should have driven to Gettysburg this weekend.  I thought about it three years ago, when the 150th anniversaries began for various Civil War events.  But I completely lost track of time.

And now the anniversary is here, and I’m not in Pennsylvania.

So instead I’ll be watching one of my favorite movies tomorrow night. Martin Sheen as Robert E. Lee? Yes, please.

And since I should have posted this yesterday — one of favorite Mort Kunstler paintings, Morning Riders.

John Buford, the man who decided the battle would be fought in Gettysburg

If you haven’t been to Gettysburg, please go.  If you haven’t read Killer Angels, please do.  If you haven’t seen Gettysburg, I’m not sure we can be friends.

I remember that! It’s hard to believe it’s been that long, isn’t it? I was more of a Thomas girl, myself. : )

I’m hoping to get to Gettysburg in August – I’ve never been either! But this weekend we are going to Chickamauga Battlefield: site of the last major battle won by the Confederacy before the Union won in Chattanooga and Sherman began his march to the sea.
Have you seen Ken Burns’ Civil War series? That’s a must-see!
