first sunburn of the year

It’s official — April 3rd, and I have my first sunburn of the year.  As I sit here and type, I can feel that familiar prickly-feeling on my arms that’s a sure sign summer is here.

Or at least summer weather.

It’s was almost 85 degrees here today, and a few of my friends and I headed down to a winery to enjoy the beautiful day.  I didn’t know what to expect — after having spent four years in Virginia wine country, I thought I might be a little spoiled.  But I was definitely willing to give this place a shot.

The winery is owned by Kix Brooks of Brooks & Dunn, and it was definitely the place to be today.  Luckily we got there early, so we actually were able to do our wine tasting pretty quickly.  I’m no wine connoisseur, but I know what I like, and I liked three of the four wines I tasted.   They had a raspberry dessert wine that they had us taste with little chocolate truffles, and while I generally like my wine made of grapes, it was really delicious.

After we had our wine tasting and bought a bottle of red, we headed outside to the rolling hillside and camped out at one of the many picnic tables and had lunch.  Then we sat on blankets and talked and got sunburned all afternoon. 🙂

I hope to go back soon — there was plenty of space for groups, lots of patio seating, dozens of picnic tables, and even some swings.  The place was beautiful, the wine was good, and the company was more than enjoyable!

I think most of my readers probably had beautiful days today, so I hope you all were able to enjoy it!
